Plea of the Sword get melodic on "A Writhen Memory"

WATERLOO, IA - Deathcore act Plea of the Sword unleashed their brand-new single "A Writhen Memory" on YouTube and Apple Music today to announce the title of their upcoming EP, "A Modern Tragedy." This will be their debut studio release and will also include their 2020 single "Trials & Tribulations."

The new single features melodic riffs that delve into heavy breakdown sequences, delivering a tumultuous sound in the realm of traditional deathcore. While not focusing only on the breakdowns, Plea of the Sword's riffs stand out as a truly creative statement within the genre. Blending heaviness with groove, this Waterloo-based quintet will leave audiences flattened once live shows pick back up.

"There was a lot of time that went by where there was nothing really being posted," vocalist Joey Williams said, "and we're not playing any shows right now just because of COVID, obviously, so we just wanted to leave some breadcrumbs."

So far, the latest in the trail of breadcrumbs has been a treat.

The band spent a year writing the music for their upcoming EP, but plenty of work remains to be done. According to Williams, the band is still attempting to finalize the album artwork. They also have been brainstorming music video ideas, however, whether or not they will actually make any music videos is still up in the air. While the branding of the EP has been taking time, the band members have been having fun recording and writing their music.

Lyrically, the EP will relate to tragedies and struggles within everyday life. Williams drew vocal inspiration from Phil Bozeman (Whitechapel) and Mattie Montgomery (For Today), among others.

"The entire band, I feel, has really put their influence into it, and it really gives us our own sound," Williams said.

The two singles so far have been recorded by AJ Bryan of Astral Space, and Alex Larson of Guilty of Treason worked on the post-production. There is not an exact release date for the EP, but according to Williams, it will be out in 2021, and it will not be the last breath from the lungs of Plea of the Sword.
